A place is a state of mind, right?
The name of this blog derives from a party my (newly) former roommate and I held in January 2011. It was a throwaway title in the event name field of a Facebook invite and it somehow became this massive part of my identity ever since. I became the girl that threw fort parties. The girl you gave extra sheets to for said parties. Eventually, I became known as the girl with a ball pit in her house. Hell, visitors to our humble abode could check into “Fort Awesome” anytime they came over.
When it came time to name this blog, I had no doubt in my mind that I wanted to incorporate my funky wood-paneled pad covered in sheets into the title. But now that I’ve moved? What now? Is Fort Awesome a state of mind? Is the whole experience cheapened because the house still exists and I’m not there? Sure, I have visitational rights to the ballpit and will help plan parties, but it’s not the same. I know it’s not. And yet, here I am. Ye olde forting it up as if I didn’t move forty minutes away. Ok. It’s more like thirty-seven minutes, but whatever.
And now? This gorgeous and sleek grown-up home with a cleaning lady and fancy HGTV inspired decor I’ve moved into? Can I just tell you….I love it. LOVE it love it love it. It still feels weird and I’m temporarily in my new roommate’s office for a month to avoid homelessness (long story), but all four days I’ve been here just feel right. Like this is where I need to be. This is no ball pit home, I’ll tell you that much. This is more of a random-bench-at-the-base-of-the-stairs-only-exists-to-hold-a-beautiful-mosaic-bowl sort of house. I’m really excited to see where this goes.
As for blogging? Well, I would like to say that I’m going to do my best to keep on posting, but my demanding lover, the Ironbiund Maidens, comes first. Always. Between the library, derby, and attempting to scrabble together some sort of social life I find blogging to be low on the totem pole of my verbose to-do list. A very missed segment of the totem pole, but still…low. Fortunately, I’ve been documenting everything with pictures as I go along and I plan on weaving exciting memories of 2014 into posts. So don’t count me out just yet.
